6 Q's With Ali Landry

Ali Landry rose to fame as the Doritos Girl (who can forget that commercial!) and then as a successful model/actress, and now she cohosts Hollywood Today Live. She is also a mama to three children and creator of an app called FavoredBy, which helps fellow moms navigate the very confusing world of baby gear. Below she shares her vision for FavoredBy, her must-have products and some advice she would give her pre-mama self

You have had a successful career in pageants, as a model and actress and now you’ve launched an app and are a mom to three! What are your tips and tricks for balancing it all?

I try my best like all moms to achieve that balance in my life, but I’ve realized that sometimes it’s OK for life to be a little out of balance. So when it is, embrace it. All I can do is go into each day hoping to be the best I can be for my children, my husband, my business and for myself, but I find that something or someone always falls short and that’s OK. I try not to attach any guilt to it because it doesn’t serve anyone. I try to be present, in the moment and always see the lesson. My husband told me the other day, “Life happens for you, not to you!” I found a lot of peace in that.

FavoredBy is a site and app that is like the Cliff’s Notes version of the best baby products. What are your hopes with it? Where do you see the brand in five years?

I started this company a few years ago for very selfish reasons. I had just had my first child and I was having the hardest time finding the best products out there for our family’s needs. So I guess you could say FavoredBy was created out of necessity. I would love to see the brand continue to grow and really help moms make smart purchasing decisions for their children and families. I would love to help them to have one less thing to worry about.

Can you share something about yourself that would surprise people?

I am on a health journey right now in my life. I woke up one day and found myself exhausted, with brain fog, a tiny bit depressed at times, with poor digestion and little motivation. I made a choice about nine months ago to take my health back, and I have to say I have never felt better. I have turned my health around and I really want to share with other women what worked for me, so stay tuned.

If you could go back in time and give some advice to your pre-mama self, what would you tell her and why?

There are so many quotes that I read daily and reflect upon. The one that comes to mind is: “The things that excite you are not random. They are connected to your purpose. Follow them.” —Unknown

You have already accomplished so much—what do you want to do next?

I, of course, have dreams of things that I want to accomplish in life. But I am trying very hard to focus on this moment and being present because all we have is now.

Can you share with us some of your must-have products that have been essential for you and your family?

Now the fun stuff! I could not live without my Medela breast pump, my carseats (Diono, Britax, Clek), my Slumber Sleepers by Swanling (this was heaven sent), Dr. Brown’s, Palmer’s Cocoa Butter for stretch marks, Happiest Baby on the Block DVD, Marpac Dohm sound machine, BabyBjorn carrier (I even figured out how to nurse in it!)
