Hacking Fall Trends with Stylist and Blogger Ashley Fultz
Fall is probably my favorite season for fashion. I love the colors, the fabrics, the layering and the accessories (hello, scarves and booties!).
I’ve enlisted the help of my friend and fellow blogger Ashley Fultz of the Style Editrix to help us hack some of this season’s trends so they make sense for mom life. I mean, I love kimonos, but I need to know how to wear this trend without looking like I literally rolled out of bed and drove my kid to preschool.
Ashley is a former producer for E! She hails from Louisville, Kentucky, and is raising her adorable boy, Smith, with her husband in L.A. Her lifestyle and fashion blog is an amazing destination for all things fashion and style—in a nutshell, she makes mommy fashion look effortless!
Here are five trends I’d love to hack this season for mom life (AKA washable, wearable, bend-downable and easy to put on in five minutes)! Also, let’s not forget kid-carrying, preschool drop-off and playground-friendly. And I don’t want any embarrassing mishaps. (If we are doing off the shoulder, I don’t want it off my whole body when I pick up my kid.)
Ashley is going to help us stay on trend while still being the practical #mombosses we are!
Ashley,I love the pajama daywear and kimono trends. What are some of your favorite pieces and practical ways to style them?
I love adding a kimono over a simple jeans-and-tee look. It adds a lot of style while still looking effortless. And I love wearing pajama-style tops and pants these days out of the house. You want to make sure you are wearing the tops with skinny jeans and probably tucking them in, so you don’t look like you’re actually in pajamas, and make sure the material is silky and nice. For pajama-style bottoms, opt for the wide-leg silky pants trend and pair it with a knit top or sweater.
ROMANTIC (LACE AND VELVET)
Ashley, how can one incorporate this trend into their everyday look?
Lace and velvet are two key styles for fall and very easy to incorporate into everyday style. You are seeing a lot of lace panel tops, jeans with lace insets in the knees and lace everywhere! Velvet is so on trend right now and you’re seeing velvet pants, tops, dresses—you name it!
OFF THE SHOULDER
Do you have any tops you’ve found that are wearable around the little ones?
I would opt for cold-shoulder tops instead of off the shoulder. It’s still stylish and mom-friendly at the same time.
How can one add some masculine touches without it being overpowering?
I love the plaid check trend and oversize blazers for fall—they are definitely menswear-inspired, but we are making it soft and feminine.
BOLD COLORS (I HEAR PURPLES AND REDS ARE ALL THE RAGE)
Tell us your favorite ways to add bold colors like purples and reds into your look with makeup, accessories and key pieces.
I love bright, bold colors for fall. Usually, we see a lot of muted tones when the temps drop, but not this year. Think vibrant jewel-tone tops, dresses and even pants! And the accessories are also bright and fun. I love the idea of playing with red on red, wearing bright suiting and colorful printed tops with skirts or leather pants for fall. I also think a deep purple or burgundy lip for fall is perfect!
Thanks as always for stopping by!
